I’m only supposed to be doing short walks – fortunately there are a few cafes in our area a short walk away. I’ve been wanting to come to Carolina for a while – walked up here Monday to find they were closed. Might have to come back again soon for dinner. The sun in the sheltered courtyard is beautiful!
I’ve been listening to a bit of Beirut lately. They’re an american band that we were lucky enough to see as a support act last year when we went to see Calexico at The Roundhouse in Chalk Farm. They play quite a different kind of music – very full of sound and interesting to listen to. One of the things that amazed me when we saw them live was the number and range of instruments they had on stage at any one time. I think there were 7 of them on stage playing at one time or another the following instruments:
- Eukelele x 3
- fiddle x 2
- baritone sax
- tuba x 2
- trumpet x 3
- tambourine x 2
- vocals x 2
While the lead singer wasn’t a terribly big bloke, he had a spectacular voice – very deep and strong.
I’d recommend checking them out if you get the chance – especially live.
Season 13 Episode 6
Millhouse: I didn’t know your dad was so interested in science
Bart: Aaahh – he didn’t say science, he said pie pants
Homer: mmmmmmm….pie pants…..
(when Bart was getting kicked out of school and moving to another…)
And if you get kicked out of that one you’re going straight in the army where you’ll be sent to America’s latest military quagmire….where will it be? North Korea? Iran? Anything’s possible with commander kookoo bananas in charge
